Oasis - Day Three - Some Might Say

It is Day Three of my week with Oasis, and today's pick is Some Might Say. Released in 1995, this was the first Oasis single to hit the top spot. This is a real rock classic.

Taken from their second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory, also released in 1995, this single was the first Oasis single to hit the number one spot in the UK charts. This is a bit surprising really, as they had some great tracks before this on their first album, including Live Forever.

To me this is the track that defined Oasis as a true rock band. Their d├ębut album, Definitely Maybe set the scene, but with the release of this single and the album its taken from, they firmly secured their place in UK music.

Written by Noel Gallagher, you can clearly hear the influence he takes from rock icons like T-Rex and the Stones. This is true rock and roll - guitars feature heavily, and from the first beat you can tell its Oasis. Bam, be bam bam - and off we go for a track that is powerful.

The lyrics are witty and clever, and perfectly in sync with the strong beat and rock styling. Liam's snarling takes on a new dimension in this song - his arrogance doesn't come over in this track - it's a rock song, but a cheery one. Some might say we will find a brighter day - what more perfect lyric is there? I absolutely love this song. I had forgotten how amazing it was, but actually, it sounds even better now.
