Day One of My Week with The Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor

Day One then of My Week with the Arctic Monkeys. My first choice is I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor.

This was the first single to be taken from their debut studio album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm not. It was released in 2005, and went straight in at number one in the UK chart.

This was a massive hit, and really added to their fame. They were, and still are a big touring band, and they already had a massive following. They were something of an underground act, but this took them mainstream, big time.

This single won them an NME award, and the song was critically acclaimed. When you listen to it now, almost ten years on, it just hasn't dated at all. It still sounds fresh. This was one of their first awards, which set the scene for what was to come.

This is a very guitar based song, with Alex Turner's somewhat unusual vocals and style making it a stand out track, even by their own high standards. It sounds similar-ish to The Strokes. Quite fast paced, indie rock style, but very catchy and very enjoyable.

The video is just them, doing their thing. Its very apt for this track. No gimmicks, all about the music. And the music in this instance, is amongst the very best of them.

A brilliant song and a great choice to kick off my week with this band. Let me know what you think.
