My Week with the Arctic Monkeys begins

My week with the Arctic Monkeys begins today. So lets take a closer look at this band.

The Arctic Monkeys formed back in 2002. 12 years on, they are one of the best known and best loved British bands, known for being fantastic in the live arena. They come from Sheffield, and their are 4 of them.

On lead vocals and guitar we have Alex Turner. Jamie Cook is on lead guitar and backing vocals, Nick O'Malley on bass guitar and backing vocals, and last but not least Matt Helders on drums and backing vocals.

To date, they have released five studio albums. They were signed to Domino in 2005. The following year 2006 saw the release of their first album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's what I'm not. It became the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history. Impressive.

Their second album followed in 2007. Favourite Worst Nightmare went straight to number 1, like their debut album. Humbug, their third album was released in 2009, and again, hit the number one spot.

In between album 2 and 3, lead singer Alex Turner had been off with his side project, the Last Shadow Puppets. They are a brilliant side project incidentally. Back to the Arctics.

Suck It And See was next, their fourth album. It was released in 2011.It again hit the top spot, winning all sorts of accolades for having four albums on the trot to reach number one.

Their fifth album, AM, was released in 2013. Guess what - yep, it reached the number one spot too. All five albums number ones.

Arctic Monkeys are indie rock. They aren't pop, but release catchy records all the same. They aren't a rock band, but their music is definitely guitar and drum based in feel.

So they have had five studio albums, resulting in 19 single releases. They were one of the pioneers of low key advertising and mainly internet based publicity.

They have won BRIT awards, won the Ivor Notello, been nominated for Grammys, won the Mercury prize, won the Meteor Music award, even a MOJO. They have been nominated for MTV awards, won Muso award, won lots of NME awards and Q awards.

Make no mistake, this is a successful band. So, the first single choice is coming tomorrow, so pop back for that if you wish. Why don't you have a look at My Music page before then? Click here. Happy listening. :)
