Day two of my week with Amy Winehouse and today its her classic 'Rehab'.
This is perhaps the most famous, or should I say infamous songs of Amy's songs. Rehab was released in 2006, the first from her album Back to Black.
Rehab reached number 7 in the UK charts, but its one of those songs that will forever be her most memorable. The title unfortunate given what happened in the years to come - its almost like an omen really.
This track was written by Amy, and produced by Mark Ronson. Apparently, it was influenced by Amy's real life, where she had previously been encouraged to go to Rehab. Life imitating art, art imitating life. This song given how her life ended has lived on with a renewed emphasis.
The video features Amy singing with her band. She is seen getting out of bed, sitting on the steps outside her apartment, sitting in a psychiatrists office, and then finally it appears she actually does go to rehab. She looks sultry and healthy, and effortlessly cool.
Her voice on this song is so deep, so soulful. I don't believe there is another artist out there, either before her time or since that sounds as unique. She was something special.
This song is soul, its blues, its everything that came before it, and everything that came after, somehow blended into a song that pays tribute but still stands out as completely different. Amy Winehouse 'Rehab' summed up - just legendary.
Go and listen to this immediately. Its one of the all time greats. Remind yourself just how good and pop back and drop me a comment. Then check out more music over at My Music page here. Happy listening :)
