My single of the week is 'Uptown Funk' by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
Now lets just get the controversial bit over with. I first heard this on X Factor last week, when Fleur East did such a fabulous cover. I, along with everyone else, probably had no idea it was a new single, not even released yet. That release was due to be January 2015, but its now been released and will make its chart debut on the singles charts tomorrow.
Given that Fleur's version has stomped to the top of the itunes chart, it is highly likely that this is going to do the same.
Back to the original then. Mark Ronson, is a very well known and established act. In fact, I have featured some of his single productions over on My Music page, with Amy Winehouse. On this track, he has worked with Bruno Mars, who I also think is absolutely brill.
Bruno does tend to go for ballad types, but I much prefer him doing funky stuff like this. Locked out of Heaven was a stand out track, and here, Bruno is back to that sort of cool form.
The video features Bruno in a fetching pink jacket, looking funky on the streets. Ronson, also looking cool, is behind him all the way through. They sit in a hairdressers under the drier, dancing in the street, and just being cool guys "funking it up".
The beat makes you want to get up and dance. Its very edgy, and exactly as the title suggests, this is funky. Its also absolute fantastic pop music, and its going to be huge!!! It is probably a bit annoying to Bruno that Fleur did it just that little bit better!! However, lets face it - its not done any harm now has it? Its paved the way for a huge debut chart entry so who's complaining?
Go check this out and I defy you not to be walking around with this stuck in your head.
