My week with the Foo Fighters Day 7 and today its 'Rope'.
Rope was released in 2011. It was the first single from their album Wasting Light. Rope is probably the grittiest choice this week. It doesn't do soft then hard, like many Foo tracks. This one goes straight in with the hard stuff.
There is no respite on this one - its all big guitars and powerful riffs. Its fast paced and turbo charged. Dave Grohl doesn't showcase his voice by switching from melody to rock on this. He's all gravelly voiced snarling angst here. Its pretty impressive.
The video is beftting this grunge-esque track. Just a simple white cube, with the band donned in black looking cool, looking like the rock stars they are. Grohl has long rock star hair again, which is a perfect image for this track.
Rope reached number 22 on the UK singles chart, but was a much bigger hit in the rock charts. It stomped around for ages riding high at the top. This really showed us that the Foo Fighters can still do hard core, and that they haven't mellowed.
The lyrics are very visual. 'Give me some rope i'm coming loose, I'm hanging on you'. Clearly no hidden meaning here. The track is called Rope after all.
I like this track. It might be a bit full on for some, but I think its the most Nirvana like of the seven I have chosen this week. Quite dark, but enticingly so.
