Day 2 of my week with Taylor Swift and today its 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'.
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was released as a single in 2012. It was the lead single taken from her album 'Red' released the same year.
Taylor co-wrote the song about a real life on again off again relationship of her own, rumoured but unconfirmed to have been in reference to one Jake Gyllenhaal.
This is a sarcastic song. Especially so the bit in the middle where she speaks rather than sings, and says "I just... I mean this is exhausting, you know, like,We are never getting back together. Like, ever". Its that last bit, how she intones on "like, ever". Its clever and its catchy.
The video sees Taylor looking ultra cute wearing a pair of geek glasses as she states that they are never ever getting back together as her beau persists in ringing her and turning up. Its fair to say she doesn't look all that upset about it!
This is a catchy pop song. Taylor sounds fun and young, although it doesn't really show her vocals, it is very upbeat and you do find yourself walking about doing an American accent giving it some "like ever"! Just me? Maybe.
Although this is very "teen" tastic, it does have a further reaching appeal - hence why I like it, being in my late 30's! Its catchy, and its fun. It did well in the UK charts reaching number 4.
Taylor really threw off her country roots and turned pop on this one. I think its fab. What do you think?
