Day 6 of My Week with The Killers - Runaways

Day 6 of my week with The Killers and today its 'Runaways'.

'Runaways' was the lead single from their fourth album 'Battle Born'. Released in 2012, it reached number 18 in the UK singles chart.

This single is a big song, worthy of the rock greats like U2. Its guitars, drums and powerful sweeping vocals, rising to a crescendo. Flowers vocals sound so strong on this, and its potentially one of their biggest songs to date. Perhaps not as catchy as others, but more anthemic.

The video sees the band playing their guitars, drums and Brandon on vocals against a black background with stars twinkling. Its just them, and they look cool. It occasionally shows images of Vegas - their home town, but other than that its just them. No gimmicks, all about the music. I only just realised though watching this particular video that the drummer is the double of Jason Lee - aka My Name is Earl!

The lyrics are really emotional in this one. It starts off with a love story "we got engaged on a Friday night, I swore on the head of my unborn child that I could take care of the three of us". Then it moves on "we used to look at the stars and confess our dreams.... now we only fight". All the way through both of them talk about running away, starting off together, then wanting to run away on their own. Its a really true to life song - life does make you feel like we are all runaways at times.

This is a great song. Great lyrics, great sound, and it really put The Killers back in their niche again, after their previous album sounded more on the dance sound. This was a sort of come back single for them and its fantastic.

So there we have day 6, just one more left of my week with The Killers. If you want to remind yourself of days 1-5 or for more music just click here. Happy listening :)
