My new single of the week 'Love Me' by The 1975

This week I have chosen 'Love Me' by The 1975 as my new single of the week. Released in October, this has gained more airplay in the past week or so, finally reaching my ears!!

Its one of those that on first listen, you think "who is this then"? I mean the 1975 don't normally sound like this do they? Nope. This is a stomping track. Its like they've turned into the love child of Peter Gabriel and Michael Hutchence - that sort of catchy, rock come pop number that wedges firmly into your head.

Its the first single from their forthcoming album 'I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It' which has yet to be released. If this is anything to go by, its going to be a very different album to their debut. They are also due to tour, so fans should be in for a treat!

Lead singer Matt Healy seems to have adopted something of a change of image too. Just check out the video that accompanies this!! You will see where I'm coming from on the Hutchence genre!! Leather trousers anyone?

Back to the song. The lyrics are clever. "You've got a beautiful face but got nothing to say", and "You look famous, let's be friends" show this song is a bit tongue in cheek about pop culture. Fame for fame's sake. The video is more of the same sarcasm - cardboard cutouts of famous types, including Mr Bean!! Fabulous stuff!!

I love this song. Its catchy, its clever, and its different. Its also a pop song, but one that's true to its indie roots. Great stuff!! So what are you waiting for? Go and take a listen and let me know what you think of it!

You can find all my previous single choices over at My Music page here. Happy listening :)
