My new single of the week - You Don't Own Me - Grace ft G-Eazy

My new single of the week had to be a Christmas themed choice. Not strictly a Christmas song, but it is the song from the House of Fraser Christmas ad, so it counts!!

Yes, this week is the catchy 'You Don't Own Me by Grace featuring G-Eazy. Grace (Sewell) is an Australian singer and songwriter. G-Eazy, real name Gerald Earl Gillum, is an American hip hop artist.

The song itself is a cover version. The original 'You Don't Own Me' was released in 1963 by Lesley Gore when she was 17. This version was released back in March 2015, and was a hit in her native country, but has only become a hit in the UK since its use in that Christmas ad which gave it mass exposure to us Brits.

This is quite the feminine anthem. Its a powerful song. This girl has got some vocals on her. She hits the notes with style and finesse, and the rap bit just gives it a bit more edge. I think I would prefer it without the rap bit personally - I'm not totally feeling that bit, but I love this song so much, I can get past that.

If you have somehow not heard this, then go and take a listen. Its great, but be warned - it does get wedged firmly in your head, and you will find yourself singing to your hairbrush!! Or in the shower. Well, anywhere really!!

You can find all my previous singles of the week and loads more music stuff, over at My Music page - just click here. Happy listening :)
