My Week with The Kaiser Chiefs begins - looking back in readiness for the gig in July!!

I have chosen to spend my next week with The Kaiser Chiefs. But before we begin, lets get to know more about them.

First off they come from Leeds. They are a homegrown UK band best described as a bit indie a bit rock, and in my humble opinion, a lot great!!

Here is why I love finding out more about the background of bands and artists - I always find out some interesting details I never knew or had forgotten about. The Kaiser Chiefs formed in 2000, but they weren't originally known by that name. They called themselves Parva.

In 2003, after releasing one album as Parva, they reformed and renamed to The Kaiser Chiefs. A very wise move! The original line up was Ricky Wilson on lead vocals, Andrew White on bass, Nick Baines on keyboard and Nick Hodgson on drums. Of the original 4 only the drummer has changed, now being Vijay Mistry.

They released their first album as The Kaiser Chiefs in 2005. 'Employment' was a massive hit and established them on the indie rock scene in a big way. It reached number 2 in the UK album charts. It was nominated for a whole host of music industry accolades. It spawned the hit singles 'Oh My God', 'I Predict a Riot', 'Everyday I love you less and less' and 'Modern Way'.

Their second album, 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob' was released in 2007. It reached number 1 in the UK albums chart. The lead single 'Ruby' was followed by 'Everything is average Nowadays' and 'The Angry Mob'. More rock inspired as an album, once again, the singles were hits and The Kaisers were no longer the new boys in town.

'Off With Their Heads' was their third album and was released in 2008. This one reached number 2 in the UK album chart. The first single to be released was 'Never Miss A Beat', followed by 'Good Days, Bad Days'.

The band then took a 2 year hiatus before coming back with album number 4 in 2011. 'The Future is Medieval' reached number 10 in the UK album chart. 'Little Shocks' the first single from the album was the biggest hit taken from this 4th album.

In 2012, they released their first compilation album 'Souvenir'. In 2014 they released album number 5 'Education, Education, Education and War. This was the first album without original drummer Hodgson, who left and was replaced by Mistry. Once again they hit the top spot in the UK album chart. 'Bows and Arrows'  was the lead single, following by 'Coming Home'.

Throughout their time, they have toured, done Festivals, supported other bands such as U2 and been continuously recognized by the music industry for their work. Many times Platinum, appearing on talk shows and performing live has become their staple. They are great live. I can vouch for that.

Ricky Wilson, the front man, is one of the judges on TV program "The Voice". What I didn't know is that behind his quirky style and great voice, is a man who has an Honours Degree in Graphic Art and Design and who was previously a teacher.

The Kaisers are bold, they are fearless, they are talented and they are unique. I am looking forward to my week with this great British band. Day 1 coming soon - make sure you check back or you can catch more of My Music over at My Music page - just click here. :)
