New Single of the Week - Catfish & the Bottlemen - Soundcheck

My single of the week this week is the brilliant 'Soundcheck' from Catfish & The Bottlemen.

Catfish and the Bottlemen are an English indie group, with a bit of Welsh for good measure. They consist of Ryan Evan "Van" McCann, Johnny "Bondy" Bond, Benjamin "Benji" Blakeway and Robert "Bob" Hall.

I haven't really heard anything from them before this - but this track really appealed to me on first listen. Its a bit indie, very catchy, and has quite a strong soft rock feel to it too - lots of guitar.

Their debut album, 'The Balcony' was released in 2014. It reached number 10 in the UK albums chart. They also released a number of singles which did ok, but didn't hit the top 40 in the UK singles charts. They were one of those acts though that had a certain street cred on the UK scene.

They are due to release their second album this year, following a lot of appearances at various festivals, not to mention winning a Brit award for being best breakthrough act. Not bad.

I love the main lyrics to this - "I wanted everything at once, until you blew me out my mind, now I don't need nothing". This is a love song folks. I love this line. The snarly vocals just make it more meaningful somehow.

All in all, this is a powerful track. Its not flimsy ethereal - no this is rock, this is indie, and this is powerful stuff. Go take a listen and let me know what you think of it.
