My new retro single of the week is the wonderful 'Sweet Disposition' from The Temper Trap.
This was released as a single in 2008. It was quite a hit here in the UK, reaching number 6 in the UK singles chart.
What I didn't know, until I chose this as my retro single of the week, is that the band is called The Temper Trap, whereas I didn't know it was "The". Secondly, I had no idea that they were Australian!!
The Temper Trap formed in 2005 as a rock band. In 2008 they moved over to the UK and released their album, 'Conditions' which was their debut in 2009, from which 'Sweet Disposition' was lead single.
For me, this is the perfect song. The vocals from lead singer Dougy Mandagi are absolutely beautiful. The notes he hits send shivers down your spine its so good.
But this song is not just about the vocals. The music, the speed and the instruments all combine in the most breathtaking way. This is an absolute gem, and has become something of an anthem. Its one of those songs that we always end up playing at the end of the night when we have a get together.
So far as I know, The Temper Trap have continued to produce music and records, but none have ever equaled this in my humble opinion.
This song is all about soaring vocals, going from soft to loud, from emotional to powerful, to the the drums, guitars and keyboard that add such drama and such feeling to this track. The words add such a heightened sensation to this song "won't stop til it's over, won't stop to surrender". Wow.
If this is a new song to you, then you are really missing out and you need to have this music in your life. Go take a listen, and let me know what you think, or if you already know it just listen to it anyway and enjoy.
