Day 4 of My Week with Adele and today's pick is 'Send My Love'.
To begin with, the tracks full title is actually 'Send my Love (To Your New Lover)', which was news to me - I had spent months singing what I thought the words were - oops! Who knew?
So now that's cleared up, the song itself was released as a single in May 2016. It was from her third studio album 25 which was released in 2015. It reached number 5 in the UK singles chart.
More upbeat than some of Adele's best known songs, this one is more pop than ballad, but her vocals, as ever, are beautiful. It just shows how versatile she is to be able to do slowed down power numbers, but still sound amazing on a more regular pop tune.
Immensely catchy this one, but it starts slow and low, mainly just a really low backing, and her voice. Then it builds, gaining momentum as lots of different sounds overlay, including a sort of harmony on the vocals giving a kind of beautiful echo to her voice.
As ever, Adele's song is about her life. In this case, specifically an ex. The lyrics go "Send my love to your new lover, treat her better, got to let go of all our ghosts, we both we ain't kids no more". Its not tragic though - she's kind of flicking the V on this one - far more chirpy than her more powerful morose numbers, but equally fabulous.
I love the video to this one too. It starts with just Adele in a sort of floaty floral number, looking quite stoic. The song kicks in, and as it kicks in with the chorus and builds, it sort of overlaps the images over one another giving sort of ghostly swirling echos of Adele all around the real Adele. Its really effective and very mesmerising!
All in all this is a different turn for Adele, but is still the true person, so you don't feel detached. If anything, this is more her actual persona that she displays - fun, independent, unreigned and her own boss.
So there we have it - my fourth choice. Let me know what you think of this one. For my previous choices this week, or for loads more music - my singles of the week and loads more, check out My Music page here. Happy listening :)
