My new single of the week is from the wonderful Sam Smith with 'Too Good at Goodbyes'.
Sam Smith is one of our best here in Blighty - his voice is simply beautiful. His voice is so soulful its hard to think he is still just 25 years old. Such talent in one so young.
His vocals have never been better showcased in my humble, than in this absolute gem of a song. He has some great hits in his back catalogue, but this one appeals to me on a deeper level. Its just so raw. Sam has featured on some great tracks before releasing his own material, but its his solo output that truly show his talent.
This single 'Too Good at Goodbyes' is the lead single from Sam's second album, The Thrill of it All. His first album, In the Lonely Hour, was released in 2014. It reached number 1 in the albums chart.
The official video that accompanies the song, is a simple stripped back video. It suits the song, and its very effective, and it also shows the physical transformation of Sam himself. He has lost over 50 pounds and he looks almost unrecognisable from his former self. Kudos to Sam!
I love how humble Sam Smith is too. This song, is part pop, part soul, and very orchestral, but he comes out with comments in the press like worrying people won't want to hear his voice again. Seriously, I could never tire of his voice - its so rich and yet so effortless.
A bit of a sad song this one, but its a lovely song for the Autumn / Winter season when the nights are long and the days are short, and we all feel a bit more morose as a result. This suits the season.
I love Sam, and I love his latest output. Here's hoping for much more to come.
If you haven't heard this song, or haven't heard his previous stuff, including a James Bond theme no less, then quickly, go google or youtube him and enjoy. You can also check out My Music page here for more of my music choices, singles of the week and music stuff. Happy listening :)
