If You Had to Choose One Last Meal - What Would You Choose?

Would you go healthy with a salad box?

Traditional dinner with gravy?

Decisions, decisions, decisions. I got to thinking about what I might choose as a last meal whilst completing a survey about of all things, traditional chips. You know - the chip shop chip which you get with salt and vinegar, or gravy, or mushy peas, or even, exotically, curry sauce!! I'm not really a chip eater, so that wasn't even on my list if I had just one final meal looming before me.

So what would I opt for? I personally am most likely a fussier eater than most, as steaks, most fish, and anything off the bone are firmly off the radar for me. My choices would likely, now I put my mind to it, heading more in the curry direction - Chicken Tikka Massalla, or Balti, maybe something to really spice it up like a Vindaloo or a Madras.

But then I do love a good chinese or thai meal - chicken chop suey or sweet and sour, beef in black bean sauce maybe, or possibly a great chow mein, with prawn crackers of course! Then there is thai green or thai red curry - lovely.

Then again, I do like Mexican food - I love my chilli's, my nachos, my tacos, burritos, enchilada's, fajitas, hmm. Maybe I would choose mexican then. Oh but wait - what about Spanish and Greek? I love Tapas - you cannot beat Croquettes, or skewers, mixed olives, hummus, patatas bravas - the list is long. Greek? we are talking stuffed vine leaves, tzatziki, moussaka!

Maybe I would go for British - pie, or maybe a great doorstep sandwich, or perhaps something like yorkshire pudding with a carvery, and lots of veg, or shepherds pie or hotpot. Then again, there is more American fodder like burgers, hotdogs, corndogs or fried chicken. Or then there is Italian - linguine, bruschetta, carbonara, pizza, ravioli, lasagne.

Actually, now I think about it - its going to have to be Italian for me. How about you? What would your last meal be?

My round up of the most bonkers ways to lose weight

  • The Apple diet - literally you just eat apples.
  • Only eat with chopsticks !!
  • The clingfilm wrap - yep - you wrap yourself in it and work out!!
  • The cabbage soup diet - yuck!!
  • The maple syrup diet
Not sure I like the sound of any of these!! As I come across others, I shall add them to the list :)

I want to be a salvage hunter!

I would so love to do this for a living. Finding hidden gems, bagging a bargain. My absolute dream job.

I would do a Kirsty Allsop - checking out what's gone into skips for starters - vintage doors, mirror frames, stuff you can upcycle. Fabulous.

Then there's the bigger scale stuff that the proper salvage hunters do. Going to storage yards and stately homes to find items that you can do up and sell for £'s profit. Iron benches, church pews - you name it.

There is just something appealing about making something disregarded into something special.

The only issue is you need an income or a solid amount of savings to live off in case you don't find a bargain or you can't sell it on. I'm not quite there yet, but its where I want to be.

I want to be a salvage hunter!!

Walking Dead 3 Degrees of Separation Part III

In this installment I am looking at the cast list and their accents (more than a few convincing American accents from Blighty actors) more links between shows, more trivia, and just where the hell did all the dogs go?

Can you be fit past 40??

I turned 40 in 2016. Yup, that number I had been so afraid of. It came, it went, and I am now 42!. I am back on the diet though, well, it is New Year and a thought occurred to me.

The thought I had was this - can you be fit and in your 40's? I know people who have always exercised can maintain it. I know that sometimes people can be late bloomers. But, for me, I have never quite managed it. Never got to goal weight - never got to peak fitness.

I get close, don't get me wrong. I'm not obese, I'm not unfit. I'm just not where I want to be. And I am now 42. So can you be fit starting in your 40's? If you are someone who battles their weight, and finds exercise a chore?

Well, one thing for sure - I can't get fit sitting on my ass!! At least I could be fitt-er if not fit eh? Got to give it a go. Lets see how far I can take this body!!

New Philosophy - Try Everything and Just Go For it

In the past I think it fair to say I have been on the whole, a tad cautious. I've had my moments don't get me wrong, where I've thought to hell with it lets just do it, but overall I am a bit of a thinker.

Pro's and cons run around my head whilst I deliberate, and in the meantime opportunities pass on by. Well no more - from this point in my life, I am going to stop over thinking and just "do". Give it a try, get on with it, and not be so thoughtful.

There is nothing wrong with thinking through big decisions of course - you wouldn't just rush into marriage, or house buying, or jump on a plane with no idea where you are going and no belongings - well you can if you want to, but some thought is always a good thing sometimes.

But other times, just small decisions such as what film to watch, or what to have for tea - these things don't require much thinking and that's fine. What holds me back, is not being brave or daring. For example, I have got myself a new job. I am excited, of course, but already, and it doesn't even start until September, I am thinking.

Thinking what if this, what if that, what if I can't do it, what if they don't like me, what if I don't like them! My answer today is "so what". If it isn't for me, it isn't for me - worrying about it won't change anything other than getting me stressed out.

Even packing for holidays sometimes gets my blood pressure up. I write a list, pack everything on it, then panic thinking I've forgotten to pack things. I end up checking the list again, to make sure, then wondering if I've missed anything off the list itself - I need to chill, have a glass of wine, relax.

This is why I have decided to just give up on stressing, give things a try. What's the worst thing that can happen? Lets consider packing - so I forget something - so what? There are shops at the airport, shops when we get there - nothing I cannot live without for a week anyway.

The new job - worse thing that could happen? Ok - I might be rubbish - worse thing that could happen - I leave / am told its not working out - I do something else. End of the world? No. Not a great outcome, quite unlikely too actually, as I am actually pretty hard working and most of the time not so shabby, but life would go on.

The opposite might just happen which is worth considering. I might be brilliant, I might love it, it might be the start of something great. I might not forget to pack something, have a great holiday and feel tranquil and relaxed. All that stress might have been for nothing, so I need to stress when I need to from now on and not before anything even happens!!

I am going to try. try everything (once anyway) and just go for it.

    A Good Body is Priceless

Before I begin this post, I just want to point out that I am fully aware that my body is not what I want it to be, so this is not an exercise in vanity - quite the opposite. The photo is simply to illustrate that whilst I am no supermodel (who is in reality? - airbrushing aside) I can sometimes feel more comfortable in my own skin than at other times. Ok? right then.

The point of this post is to consider what is priceless. A few things can and do fall within this category - not least family, parents, partners, children, pets - money cannot buy love - that's a given. But what if I apply that logic to my body?

Lets consider this a moment. I am referring to the usual things here - health, vitality, youth - whilst money can improve those things, it cannot actually buy them. We all age, we all get tired, we all, eventually, get ill. Its the human condition and a fact of life.

So all those things are priceless in so much as they cannot be bought. But what else? Well, that what else is a good body (not mine at this point, obvs). What is a good body then?

A good body is one that takes effort, time and patience. It takes consistency, perseverance and will power. Sheer determination, stubbornness and commitment. It takes discipline, it takes energy, it takes mental and physical strength. Can you buy that? Not a chance.

You can pay for gym memberships, fitness gear, workout clothes and equipment. You can buy the best fitness trackers, the most expensive trainers, the top personal trainer or exercise plan. Does that actually give you the body you desire? In my case, not yet. Why?

That is the burning question. Why don't I have that bikini body I so crave? Why, despite various gym memberships, numerous exercise plans and goals, and a significant amount of effort, albeit sporadically, have I not succeeded?

The answer is simple - I don't work hard enough, consistently enough, or with the right attitude. I expect fast results, and when they don't happen, I pull back, slow down, give up. I start again, and I want immediate results, I don't get them, so I stop. As if that will ever get me to the end game - the people I admire don't yo-yo, or stop-start. They commit.

Its actually priceless. In reality, you don't need expensive kit, or gym memberships - you just need you - to commit, to be consistent, to give 100% or more every day. To love the process, not get frustrated with it. To be strong enough to push when you are tired, when you don't want to bother, when you are fatigued, and sore and can think of a million and one reasons not to try, to put it off until tomorrow, or maybe the day after - money cannot buy that. It can make things a little easier, certainly, a little more accessible, definitely, it can improve your chances of course but it cannot make you work for it, and it cannot buy the results.

A good body is priceless. And that is the ultimate status symbol - having what noone can buy and knowing its yours.
