7 Reasons to Stick to My Diet

Reasons to stick to my diet

Number 1
#Reason No 1 - I want to look good in a bikini!!

This is my intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep that thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired. .

Number 2
#Reason No 2 - I want to be a Size 10/12

My intention to think of a reason every day to stick to my diet.

If I can keep this thought in mind for each whole day, I hope it will be enough to keep me motivated and inspired.

Reason Number 2 is that I have reached a Size 12 once or twice, but never maintained it, and I need to be a bit smaller still. So size 10/12 is the goal.

Number 3
Reason number 3 to stick to my diet: To fit into all those lovely clothes in my wardrobe!!

I have many items in my wardrobe that I can't currently wear. Some are mere pounds away from fitting, some I can barely get up to my knees!! Some do fit, but look awful because they fit in all the wrong places!!

It would be lovely to open my wardrobe and just be able to select an item, knowing it will fit me. It would make packing for holiday a pleasure, not a challenge!!

Number 4
My reason number 4 for sticking to my diet is to look good at work. I am fed up of wearing the same old clothes every day. I want to be able to wear what I want to wear, not just black and grey.

I want to be more stylish, more groomed, more put together. So my fourth reason is to look good at work.

Number 5
Number 5 on my list of reasons to stick to my diet is to have more confidence. When I gain weight, I feel self conscious, and horrible, and grumpy.

When I lose some weight, I have more confidence, I feel happier and better. So that's reason number 5!

Number 6:

I want to be noticed for the right reasons!! I am fed up of walking into bars, restaurants, offices and feeling eyes on me - for all the wrong reasons! I want to be the person that gets looks in a good way. So that is my reason number 6!!

Number 7:

Ok so number 7 is a bit different. This reason is a bit of a phobia I seem to have developed. I have a real issue with facing the mirrors at the gym. When I am working certain exercises, I am supposed to check my technique in the mirror. Not me, no way, never!! I will face the other way, or if I have no choice, I will look anywhere but at that damn mirror!!

So reason number 7 for sticking to my diet is to reach a weight where I am comfortable seeing myself in the mirror when I work out.

Today's reason to exercise - Tone up those thighs

I am trying to think of a reason, each day, to stick to the intense regime on which I have placed myself.

Today, I am focusing on my legs, specifically my thighs. As a woman, I find my thighs one of the areas I struggle with most. No matter how much I run, they still wobble.

So, today's reason to get off my behind is that I want to tone up those thighs. Not just for holidays, but I want to be able to don a pair of shorts without fear of the thigh wobble.

That should get me moving today at least :)

Back to PT today - phewf - survived again :)

Today, first session back after hols, so some 4 weeks since my last session. Easy? Not a chance. Here is what today entailed:

  • 2 minutes warm up run on treadmill 6mph
  •  4 x 15 reps deadlifts
  • 4 x 15 reps chest press with weight bar
  • 2 minutes run on treadmill

  • 3 x 15 bicep curl and full squat

Here is my cooking - Vegetarian Stroganoff - very proud :)

Well, I tried to make a vegetarian stroganoff for the very first time this evening. Cooking is really not my thing. I worry too much about it, and get quite stressed.

Not this evening though!! Here are the fruits of my kitchen labour ce soir:

The other half cleared his plate, then did the dishes without my even having to ask. Now that's the best compliment ever! Result :)

MMMM - Turkey Rasher Sandwich

In my bid to be slim I am always on the lookout for new low fat but tasty alternatives. I have tried these before - the unsmoked ones. These ones are smoked. On their own, they can be bland, but done on a skillet makes them yummy. Low fat too = result!!

Today's reason to stick to the plan - I do not want bulgy bits!!

Today I am proper hungry, proper tired and physically exhausted. That will be a mile run and loads of cardio and abs for you, plus the 3 day diet!!

However, it is at moment's such as this that my will power has a tendency to waver. So, today's reason to stick to the plan? It is simply this - I don't want any bulgy bits on holiday.

I mean bits where my lingerie digs in, or my tum sticks out, or my love handles show!! It may only be a few days to go, but I can shift a pound or two in that time - if I just stick to it that is!!

PT tomorrow - so nervous!!

Tomorrow is my first Personal Training session since getting back from holiday. The first PT session in nearly 4 weeks in fact!

I have been back to the gym once this week as a starter, but just the thought of going tomorrow is making me very nervous.

I just know its going to be horrendous. I know from past experience that my body is going to have aches and pains for days afterwards. I know from past experience that it will push me to my limits and beyond.

I am also carrying a muscle strain in my right hip/buttock - like sciatic pain. God only knows what pain will be inflicted on said injuries tomorrow!!

He is aware of these issues, but something tells me that he knows what he's doing and that this will be the least of my worries.

So tomorrow is the first session back. Then the next one is booked for next week, assuming I can actually move again by then. First is always worst.

It has to be done. Its my punishment for piling weight on yet again. Maybe this time will be the last time and I can finally get to goal weight!! Going to do my best that's for certain.

Still nervous though. Eeek!!

New addition to the things I want to do in my life :)

A one hour workout is only 4% of your day

I read this yesterday, and its really motivated me. I mean come on, 4% of your day? I can do that.

So, this week, I have PT twice, both 1 hour sessions. I am not feeling good about the damned scales, which have gone up post birthday celebrations!!

So I am upping the ante. Every day will be 10,000 steps. Every day I shall exercise.

I shall have that body. I shall be that woman in the gym that looks like she should be there, instead of currently looking like someone that walked into the gym by mistake!!

Challenge is on :)

Ad Break Exercises - perfect for the reluctant

Struggling to find time to fit in your fitness sessions? No time for the gym? Well that is absolutely no excuse!

I set myself a mini goal for each day - 10,000 steps. On days when I do have the time, I go to the gym and I go for walks, especially now the days are getting a little longer each day, and spring will soon be here and the nights will be getting lighter and warmer.

It's the days when I don't go to the gym, and when I don't get chance to walk that are the issue. How do I get that elusive exercise in with a busy life?

I came up with Ad Break Exercises. Rather than spending ages jogging on the spot, or doing DVD workouts, which are all very well and good, but can get predictable and boring pretty quick, I decided to do short bursts.

Now, depending on the channel you are watching this is easier on some than others. Take ITV as example. Adverts right? Perfect. Every ad break, get your bum off the sofa and do something.

Abs, tricep dips, lunges, squats - whatever you like. Keep it going just for the length of the adverts. Not too much hard work is it? Nope. You can do every break, or just a couple - its really up to you.

However, just increasing your activity in the evenings like this will make such a difference over the course of the week. It could add up to an hour per week if you do 3-4 ad breaks each night. Ad breaks being 2-3 mins long per.

If you really go for it, it could be the difference between gaining and maintaining your weight. Better still, if you do this on your non exercise days plus keep to your healthy eating, you should rev up your metabolism and see some losses on those scales.

If you, like me, have to really push yourself to make you get up and work out, then this could be the one for you. Its short bursts, so you don't need special kit, or equipment. Your own body is all you need. So what are waiting for? :)

New Retro Single of the Week - Radiohead - Karma Police

My new retro single of the week is the classic 'Karma Police' from Radiohead.

This is one of my all time favourites. Not least, because the video reminds me of one of the scariest films ever - Christine by Stephen King!! Not quite so sinister, but it features a car slowly following a man in the distance, getting closer and closer until he turns round and faces it. Then, noticing a petrol leak, he throws his lighter down, and the car reverses quickly the way it came, but too late - the flames reach it. Quite a dark video, but its a dark song.

Radiohead are an English indie rock band. 'Karma Police' is from their third album, Ok Computer. Radiohead are not what you might describe as mainstream, so for them, this single reaching number 8 was quite the hit single.

Released in 1997, this single was quite slow paced, featuring, as ever, Thom Yorke on vocals. The band formed in 1985, hailing from Oxfordshire. They are unusual, but this song in particular is an absolute classic.

It has lots of electronic sounds to it, and no discernible reasoning really. I'm not sure what 'Karma Police" actually means, but to me, I think it means if you mess with my karma, the karma police will come for you!! Maybe. Who knows!

For me, this song has everything. Great, if a little mumbled vocals, that become almost snarly!! Clever lyrics, electro sounds, clever video - I love this. The lyrics "he buzzes like a fridge, he's like a de-tuned radio" are the likes of which you don't hear often!! Odd but great lines like "her hitler hairdo is making me feel ill" feature in this song - its just the right amount of weird.

It helps that I am a Radiohead fan anyway. Their weirdness and unusual songs and words appeal to me, because its different. You can tell its 'Karma Police' from the second it kicks in.

If this is a new song to you, go take a listen and immerse yourself. Let me know what you think. If its not new to you? Why not remind yourself of it, and have a listen anyway.

7 reasons for sticking to my diet - #7

My Vintage Cast Iron Radiator - left behind :(

This was my favourite nostalgic item. My gorgeous cast iron radiator, which cost me a fortune by the way!

It had to be left behind in my old house when I sold up. I miss this!! :(

The Faraway Tree

Out walking a few weeks back, we came upon this beautiful tree. It had scarce branches lower down its trunk, then spanned out into a beautiful canopy at its top.

It made me think of Enid Blyton and the magical Faraway Tree in the Enchanted Wood. It was in woodland and next to a lake. You just never know - it might be the actual one. I had to take a photo of it, and if nothing else, its absolutely beautiful.

Sometimes though, you have to forget you are an adult and just give in to the child part of your mind and just imagine. Go on, just for a moment. See how differently the world looks when you really look around you and take in the moment. x

The Giants Causeway & the Legend of Finn McCool

The Giant's Causeway in Ireland is a place I have long wanted to see. So you can imagine my excitement when I finally got there. This is me standing upon it imagining all manner of mythical giants and the accompanying legend of what once took place here.

The place is breathtakingly beautiful. On the day we visited, it was very windy which added to the drama. The waves were riding high with white horses. This set the perfect backdrop for the legend of Finn McCool.

So the legend goes that Finn McCool was a giant, reaching 54 feet tall. Finn lived with his wife Oonagh on the Antrim coast. One day he learned of a rival living in Scotland known as Benandonner. Finn was taunted by Benandonner when finally, Finn reached out and scooped up a clod of earth, and hurled it across the sea at him. He misssed and the clod landed in the Irish Sea, creating the Isle of Man where it landed, and the hole it left in the earth became Loch Neagh.

Finn challenged Benandonner to fight. He decided to build a causeway made of giant stones to make a path across the sea to Scotland. The legend goes that as he made his way along his causeway as he neared Scotland he caught sight of Benandonner. Finn fled home, afraid, but Benandonner was fast on his trail. Finn reached home and asked his wife to hide him.

At this point his wife in good humour, dressed Finn as a baby. Cleverly she pushed him into a huge cradle. When Benandonner approached and saw the size of the sleeping baby, he assumed its' father must be huge indeed and he took off at great speed back to Scotland ripping up the causeway as he retreated for fear of being followed.

Whether you believe in legend or whether you prefer the more scientific origins of the causeway, one thing is 100% certain. This place is amazing. The scenery is magnificent. The surrounding rocks and cliffs are impressive.

The science bit - 65 million years ago, after the dinosaurs were gone, but before us, the world was a very different place. The land was chalky, and forests and rivers covered much of it. The continents were still joined - this was before the huge earth's plates moved to the locations where we now reside. As the plates began to move, creating the Atlantic as it separated, molten lava (hot magma) spewed at 1000 degrees.

The lava spread across the chalky limestone land, burning the plant life as it went. When it cooled it formed a dark grey rock known as Basalt. The causeway is composed of this Basalt, this solidified lava. As the lava cooled, it cracked and shrank creating patterns much like that you see in dried earth or mud in river or lake beds. In the causeway, many of these regular shapes have five or six sides, and certainly when you clamber over it that seems the case.

However, I have since read that some have four, seven or eight sides, and rumour has it that there is just one with three sides. I wish I had known - I would have spent my time hunting for it, instead of doing this:

Spectacular views to be had from climbing this pathway. I would most definitely not recommend it in high winds. I was convinced that the wind would tear me from the cliff face - you can see the angle of my hair as testament to the blowing wind!! I hadn't dressed very appropriately for a quick cliff climb either - you don't often see mountaineers in jeans and leather jackets really and there is a reason for that.

All in all I definetely recommend a visit here. There is plenty more to be seen and done in Northern Ireland, but this takes some beating. Add it to your places to go list.

7 reasons for sticking to my diet - #6

Number 6:

I want to be noticed for the right reasons!! I am fed up of walking into bars, restaurants, offices and feeling eyes on me - for all the wrong reasons! I want to be the person that gets looks in a good way. So that is my reason number 6!!

Sizzling Skewers for me :)

This is my food for this evening - gorgeous Sizzling Chicken Skewers. I was going to skip the jacket potato, but I am too hungry. I shall leave the onion rings though - well, we all have to make sacrifices don't we?

I did swap my chips for a spud but I absolutely could not give up the chip shop curry sauce!! It's not that bad though - the chicken is unbreaded, and its not deep fried!! I will be working it off tomorrow honest!! Yum xx

7 reasons to stick to my diet - #5

Number 5
Number 5 on my list of reasons to stick to my diet is to have more confidence. When I gain weight, I feel self conscious, and horrible, and grumpy.

When I lose some weight, I have more confidence, I feel happier and better. So that's reason number 5!

Hey I got my new shoes on..

I have treated myself to some lovely new flip flop sandals for the summer. These will be gorgeous on holiday. Check these out:

They are metallic, Klaudio flat sandals from Vince Camuto. I normally wear cheapy plastic ones in the day, but I fancied something a bit more glam this year.

I think these will be fantastic for day time if we go out for a bite, but also with dresses for the evening. Plus, they won't take up as much space in my suitcase and will be safer after a vino or too!! Grab yourself a pair for £65 if you like them. I do! x

7 reasons to stick to my diet - #4

Number 4
My reason number 4 for sticking to my diet is to look good at work. I am fed up of wearing the same old clothes every day. I want to be able to wear what I want to wear, not just black and grey.

I want to be more stylish, more groomed, more put together. So my fourth reason is to look good at work.

New idea - Chocolate Raclette!

Previously, I shared with you the joys of the Raclette. All those cheeses melted down - A-mazing.

I've used the machine many times, as its a favourite of my mums' but she bought one for me too and its been very well used indeed let me tell you!!

A thought has occurred to me though. Would anything else work on it? Like, well, I don't know - chocolate?

Imagine this - loads of different choccy bars or blocks. So I am thinking plain Galaxy or Dairy Milk to trial first. Break off a few blocks, whack it on the Raclette, wait until it melts then pour it over strawberries.

Ok, so that could work. Now lets be a bit more creative. I'm thinking toblerone, milka with praline and, let me just think for a second, ok lets go with a Caramac. The choc would melt, the nougat might go gooey - that could be amazing over something like meringue nests.

So next lets think of a Fruit and Nut Yorkie Bar, a Mars Bar and a Marvellous Creation bar of any flavour. What would that melt like? What could I pour it over? Mmm.

Lets go selection now. Lets go for a tray of Milk Tray, Thorntons Continentals or Black Magic. Pop a few different flavours on your pan and get creative! Pour over something like plain vanilla ice cream. Lovely.

Finally lets go extreme. I'm thinking combinations - a bit of milky bar, a freddo bar and lets see, a chunk of snickers all in one pan. What would that taste like over a sponge cake? Or a lion bar, a double decker and a Daim bar?

We could go international - belgian chocs, American Reeses Pieces, and a bit of Kinder? Perhaps even a Cadbury Cream Egg, with some haribo and some marshmallow pieces! On a pancake?

The possibilities are endless, but what strikes me is why I've not thought of this before!!

Challenge is on - what creations are you thinking of? If you give it a go, let me know!! :)

7 reasons to stick to my diet - #3

7 reasons to stick to my diet - #2

My Week with Morrissey Day 2 - How Soon is Now

Day 2 of My Week with Morrissey and today it is 'How Soon is Now'.

This was released as a single in 1985, but was originally a B side the previous year. Of all The Smith's songs, this one is probably the most recognisable by far.

It fared pretty well in the UK singles chart, reach a respectable number 24. Its been used a lot in film and TV, notably 2 of my own favourites - those being the TV series Charmed, and the film The Craft. Pretty cool really, and rightly so.

I think for me, its the words that really hooked me. "I am the son, and the heir, of a shyness that is criminally vulgar. I am the son and heir, of nothing, in particular". Its just that dry, Northern sarcasm that made Morrissey and the Smiths so unique.  "I am human and I need to be loved".

However, "So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home, and you cry, and you want to die" is possibly the best line ever written.

For me, its the dramatic instrumental backing that really makes this track something special. It sort of builds up to a dramatic peak, which makes you really feel the satisfying emotion of it. It goes "duh -duh" and you feel the power of this song. That probably means nothing if you haven't heard this - entirely possible for those younger in years than I so I say this - go and listen to this - this is a classic song.

This song is all Morrissey's morose vocals, and weirdly distorted guitar from Marr, but somehow, its more than that. Somehow, this song, dismissed in its infancy, became something greater than the whole, something that elevated it to a song that will always be remembered, a stand out track.

Go and have a listen to this. If its new to you, its something that you won't recognise as there is just nothing similar. If its just been a while, go remind yourself.

Single of the Week - Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out - recap

My new single of the week is the brilliant 'Stressed Out' by Twenty One Pilots.

This is such a catchy song when you get into it. When it first starts though, you wonder what it is then it kicks in and you start to recognise it. Even now, I don't immediately recognise it when it starts, and that's after getting to know it quite well. Its a sneaky one this - sort of creeps up on you , and you go "oh, its that song".

Back to the band - Twenty One Pilots are an American band. This single is from their fourth album, which was released in 2015 and was called "Blurryface" which is referenced in the lyrics. Personally, I had never heard of them until this song.

Judging by the lyrics, this is a song about growing up / getting old. The lines "Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol' days, when our momma sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out" suggest that its a bit of a melancholy look back at childhood from the eyes of an adult. Its actually quite poignant.

The band are a duo, and their style is a bit indie, a bit hip hop, a bit electro pop - some kind of rapping in places makes this quite an edgy track. Its the sort of electro backing sounds that make this stand out, as well as the catchy hook. Its an unusual song, but it grows on you. They are a hard band to pigeon hole, as they seem to have a bit of a nod to most music genre's based on this track.

Doing a bit of research into this band, its interesting where they got their name from. Apparently its from the Arthur Miller play All My Sons. Its a play about a man who causes the death of 21 pilots - which I would imagine would be more than stressed out!!

So there we have it - a bit of a different song this - hard to nail down by way of description, so best just to take a listen to it yourselves. Let me know what you think.

You can find loads more of my music choices over at My Music page here. Happy listening :)

    What I'm Watching this Week

    • Game of Thrones - catch up on first 2 episodes of the new series. First episode, not so much. Second episode? OMG!! I won't spoilt it for you but my gosh it ends with a shock!! Fantastic stuff. Actually got just episode 3 to catch up, then back to waiting a week for an episode again. Pah!! I will just say this - Jon Snow!!

    • Eastenders. Back off hols, and just watched tonight's episode - yay Peggy is back. Then, shocker, she's terminally ill. Then it showed some moving scenes with her and Phil, that reminded me of how nice Phil once was. Then, shock of all shocks, Grant!!! This going to be classic 'stenders, and I think I am going to require tissues.

    • Films. I have watched Maggie - very scary indeed. Great cast - Joely Richardson and Arnie. New take on the zombie flick. I have watched The Martian. Now, I am not the biggest Matt Damon fan, if I'm honest, but in this he is fantastic. You literally never take your eyes from the screen, and a lot of the time, there is only him on it. Finally, The Revenant. Leonardo DiCaprio is oscar worthy in this ruthless and brutal epic of survival. More on these to follow later.

Coming up this week (back from hols) :)

I got back from my holiday this morning. I am feeling very tired - 9 hours flights will do that to you!!

    Plus loads more :)

Glass of vino? don't mind if I do!! :)

Holiday may be over, but that's no reason not to celebrate. Struggling to get back into the full throw of things at the moment.

This is my usual life routine : work 5 days a week, gym 4 days a week, 10 mins exercise each week day morning. Breakfast, dinner and tea - no snacking. No alcohol on a week night, moderate amount of a weekend. Comping most nights, write a few blogs each day, tweet a little, Pinterest and Facebook, plus a couple of surveys a week. Then there is ebay, reading all my emails, downloading the pics I have taken, listening to new music for my single of the week, and back catalogues for "My Week With". Going out usually one night a week for a meal or a couple of drinks, seeing friends and family.

I got back last night, and only tonight turned on my laptop. Tonight is the first time on FB for a week and a half, first comp for a week and a half. I tried to keep blogging longer, but that's been a day or few now, and everything else I just can't get back into!! I feel out of my routine, and as for exercise - big fat zero on that front despite my good intentions!!

I will get back into things tomorrow, and normal service shall resume!! Promise!! Not jet lagged, but feel like I've had the most amazing week and reality feels kind of strange and unusual!! Glass of wine you say? That will do nicely!

Great holiday though. Going to download all the pics over the weekend, then will share my tales with you. Bear with me! :)

My Travels - Hoar Cross Hall - Looking Back 2014

We recently went to Hoar Cross Hall for a spa weekend. I can report that it was fabulous. This is the entrance, which is impressive.

All around the outside of the building and in the grounds are beautiful sculptures and statues.

The grounds are pristine. Sculptured hedges, manicured lawns, gravel pathways.

Looking back at the house as we explored the grounds, it looked absolutely superb. This is one impressive building.

There are little sunken gardens, and secret entrances. This statue was in a secluded little garden area, and overgrown with moss. It looked even more pretty as a result.

Nestled at the end of a gravel path, this bench just invites you to sit back and take it all in.

Spooky twisted old trees line the walkways and paths, adding to the atmosphere.

The front of the building and the main entrance make you feel like royalty. Statues of deer are on the lawns.

You really do feel like you are in the height of finery and that you are somewhere very special. And thats just the outside of the place!
