Weekly Weigh in - The Results are In!

I set myself a puffickly huh-uge target for my weight loss this week.Well, its week 1 and I always tend to get the best loss in the first week. So I went for it. Then I was a bit offside at the weekend - nothing serious, just dodgy tum - something I ate, didn't eat, should have eaten - who knows! So I thought it might have scuppered my chances, so it wasn't without trepidation that I dragged me feet towards the scales.

So what was the target loss I was aiming for? Well, a huh-uge 10lbs was the goal. So what was the result? I am astounded to say I actually managed it! Well, less about 0.2 of a pound. Wow!

So just 22 more pounds to shift now in exactly 5 weeks! Eek. Anyhoo - got to run - on the treadmill - right now. 5 pounds to lose this week :)

Bamboo Towels Review and Giveaway

Bamboo Towels Review and Giveaway

What I'm Watching this Week

  • Big Brother. Having been off on a short break, I've been watching by bulk on catch up, and seriously, having watched several episodes one after another I think I need counselling. Since when did everyone get so angry at each other over absolutely nothing? That Suki lady said a bag was over her head - er no, it was just about covering your hair. Celebs came in, celebs left. Friends fell out, enemies became close - its the most bonkers yet!!

  • Banshee. We have just started Series 4, which sadly is the last ever series of this amazing drama. It has it all - love, lust, sex and violence, loyalty, family, betrayal, feuds, murder, retribution - you name it. The main character Lucas Hood, who isn't really who he is, is amazing. His ex / love of his life is the coolest female ever - she kicks ass. As sidekicks go, job takes some beating. The actors, the script, the bad guys - absolutely slick and utterly shocking. Brilliant.

  • Emmerdale. OMG - someone stabbed Harriet! What will Cain do and will she survive? Some serious nasties in the Dales of late. Those horrible school boys and what they did to Eric, now this? It was quite funny seeing Robert get his own back on Ross, but now this. Dangerous Dales it should be called. Oh and whilst I at it - will someone please sort Pierce out - he is the worst of the worst badies bar one.

  • Corrie. All bar the baddiest baddie ever - Nathan. Finally Bethany sees it - thank god for Mary. Who'd have thought it would be her that finally got through to Bethany? The Barlows still don't know what Daniel did, and Robert is trying to help him - not sure about Robert. Noone can be all good. As for Aidan and Maria - it looks like the game is up - come on Eva - a woman scorned and all that!

My New Single of the Week - Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee

My single of the week is the very brilliant 'Despacito' and the version from Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee - not the Bieber one!

Both artists are from Puerto Rico, and this version is completely in Spanish, making it very unusual. Apparently, its the first mainly Spanish song to hit the top of the charts since the Macarena! Blimey.

What I love about this song, is that its totally summery. Its funky, its sexy, its sultry and despite being Spanish, you can sort of sing along to it, and you can most certainly dance to it. It has a seductive pulse to it, and it makes you feel good.

The video is beautiful - very low key - just a group of them hanging out, looking cool and happy singing away. The girl is stunning - cue making me actually get on the treadmill! Clearly never eaten a pie in her life, hence looking like that. No wonder they are singing to her!

I love the sort of reggae feel to it, though its still a pop song. Its just so different from anything else - I absolutely love it. It does kind of make me feel a bit like its a nod to Santana - who takes Latino cool to a new level. That is a compliment by the way.

Funky, sexy, catchy - what more do you want from a summer tune? I do like the Bieber version, but I prefer this one.

If you have somehow missed this version, go check it out. Let me know what you think. If you want more music then check out My Music page here. Happy listening :)

A lion does not lose sleep over the opinion of sheep

I read this and thought hell yeah!! I have been so worried lately over what people think. Worried about letting people down, letting myself down, procrastinating everything and anything.

Then I read this and I thought - why am I worrying what other people think? I know who I am, and I am good at what I do. I don't need to keep doubting myself. I am a lion.

Lions roar. Lions rule their pride, and defend their own. They stand their ground. They don't have sleepless nights worrying what sheep think of them, or what sheep think, or even whether sheep even exist!!

So, from this point forward I am a lion. I just need to roar!! :)

Hottest June day ever - how to keep cool

As the temperatures have reached 30 and over, its time to think how to keep cool. Here is my round up of what you can do to be just like Fonzie:

  • Keep the windows open upstairs to keep air circulating
  • Wear loose clothing
  • Ditch the thick socks
  • Keep hydrated with water
  • Carry a spritz or cool spray with you
  • Keep your feet bare when you can
  • Keep a hat on - stop that head getting burnt
  • Slap on the sun screen - hot is bad, burnt is worse
  • Turn on the fans
  • Stay in the shade
  • Keep your car windows down a jot
  • Pop your toes in cold water
  • Get your bikini out
  • Slip on your shorts
  • Sleep in the buff
  • Ditch the foundation and go for the tinted moisturiser
  • Put your umbrella up
  • Put your flip flops in the fridge
  • Make some ice cubes
  • Grab an ice lolly
  • Eat salads
  • Use cold flannels
  • Chill your drinks
  • Grab an iced tea

What's Happening in the World this Week

  • Election fever has broken out. As of fifteen minutes ago, its all over. Now the country just waits to see the result. I won't say who I voted for, only that I did vote as should everyone. One way or another we will wake up to a new world.

  • #OneLove in Manchester last weekend, and obviously the horrendous events in London. Stunned. And where the hell was Noel then? Seriously.

  • Summer came, and it went. It feels like winter in England this week - I have the central heating on - in June! Come on weather - get with the picture!

  • The American situation. Trump, Clinton, former FBI chief. Good grief - its like a film script.

Single of the Week - Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence

My new Retro single of the week is Depeche Mode with 'Enjoy the Silence'.

Now back in the day, I was quite the Dep Mode fan myself, and 'Enjoy the Silence' was right up there as one of my favourites. In making it my retro single of the week, I listened again, and watched the slightly bonkers video, and was reminded how great this song is even after all these years.

'Enjoy the Silence' was released in 1990, and was taken from their album of that year Violator. It was an iconic image of a red rose on a black background on the album, and this single had the same rose image in white against a blue background. You would have had to look hard to find a corner somewhere back in the 90's where that image was not on a poster or a t-shirt!

Depeche were an English band, led by Dave Gahan on vocals. The band themselves were the very height of cool back then - think black leather, quirky videos and rock and roll personas. We wanted to be like them - personally, I wasn't!

The video seemed a bit odd at the time, but seems even more so now looking back. Basically, lead singer Gahan, dressed in a king's robes and crown, wandering about with a deckchair in various isolated locations like lakes and mountains. Fits the song though - maybe he was just trying to actually find a quiet place to enjoy the silence, as the song suggests.

The lyrics to this song are quite dark but somehow beautiful. "all i ever wanted, all I ever needed, is here, in my arms, words are very unnecessary they can only do harm". Sung in Gahan's deep tones, it sounds sultry.

Depeche Mode were very into the electronic synth sound, but their sound was quite unique and stand out. They were definitely more dark and sinister sounding than many of their bubbly pop contemporaries!

I think this song still sounds as great and as morose as ever. Well worth a listen either to reminisce or to listen for the first time. Let me know what you think.

My man is banned from the kitchen :)

There was a point last year when I realised that my other half is not to be trusted making sandwiches. One night, he offered to make ours and G's. In the morning he informed me ours were the two on the top shelf and G's were on their own on the bottom shelf.

At lunch that day, I noticed mine were cut into small squares. The other half accused me of picking up the wrong ones. I hadn't, but I let it go. So imagine my surprise when I got home and there was still a sandwich in the fridge.

Puzzled, the other half then noticed the pack of chicken was missing. He had only sent her to school with a pack of sandwich chicken instead of a sandwich!!! Bloody fool!! Made me laugh though - G not impressed mind. Can you imagine her face when she opened them and found a pack of chicken instead?!!!

My Week with Adele Day 2 - Someone Like You

Today for my second choice in my Week with Adele I have chosen the wonderful 'Someone Like You'.

'Someone Like You'  was taken from Adele's second album 21, in 2011. Unsurprisingly, it reached the number 1 spot in the UK singles charts.

This song, co written with Dan Wilson, could have been a depressing number, written as it is about Adele's heartbreak following her relationship breakdown. However, despite it having such a stripped back and sombre tone, it somehow lifts up out of it and being so beautifully sung and composed, it takes your breath away rather than pull you down into her despair.

We all know the pain, or at least most of us do, that relationships can bring. Adele sank herself into this and gives it all she has. Its a sort of emotional venting for a lost love. Its very sad, but my god what a song. It gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it, and it still pulls me in.

Adele's vocals, always wonderful, are never better showcased than when its just her and the piano. The lyrics could make you weep they are so personal "Nevermind, I'll find someone like you/I wish nothing but the best for you, too/Don't forget me, I beg/I'll remember you said/Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead", but you can't help but ruin it by warbling along with it. Well, me anyway!

The video to this, is a suitably morose affair - black and white, Adele looking miserable and heartbroken - yep, not one to watch or indeed listen to if you feel emotional - or maybe it is - sort of a sympathetic venting - let it out as they say.

A beautiful song from a beautiful woman, who should truly not look back at someone foolish enough to let her go. What a fool that man must be. Whose laughing now Adele? You. Go girl!

Amazing song. So there we have my choice for Day 2. Which should I choose next? Decisions decisions. Go take a listen - song perfection.

What I'm Watching this Week

  • Corrie. Difficult watching this week. First off, I was convinced it wasn't Daniel, then I was convinced he killed him mum - blimey. Then Nick has gone totally off his bonce in his determination to destroy Peter and Steve - royally backfired. Then Shona tried to intervene and got battered for it. Flipping heck corrie - and as for Bethany - scary.

  • Emmerdale. Carlie - nooo!!! Just do not hurt Marlon. And as for that church window for Ashley - hilarious! Not seeing anything of Harriet and Cain - was loving that storyline too!

  • Salvage Hunters. I am so obsessed with this program. Drew is just so cool. He visited an old factory who manufacture bells, and it was amazing what gems he found, but the one that amazed me was this side table in a big old country house. Its there, just behind the sofa with a phone and mags etc.. on the top of it and Drew spotted it - its worth £100K! Jeez. Fabulous stuff - makes me want to get a van and head off hunting for salvage.

  • Banshee. So we are rewatching from the start and its even better second time around. When you know what's coming, you can concentrate on things you miss the first time around. Its such a well thought through plot, and all the characters both the main leads and the supporting cast are so superb. You are literally transported to a different world for an hour. Fabulous.

  • Game of Thrones. Sean Bean has already been killed off - series 1 - jeez! You really never know in the GoT world who is going to be bumped off next! Fabulous, brutal, gory and highly sexual - amazing program. Looking forward to getting totally up to date - goodness only knows what the future will bring! Loving Daenerys - Queen of Dragons.

Well My Goodness, Its June already!!

Happy June lovelies! Great isn't it? Summer is finally here. Well, almost, just the weather hasn't quite cottoned on to that yet!

So June 21st is the summer solstice. What does that mean? It means it is the longest day of the year. That means every day for the next 21 days the days will get a teeny bit longer. It will go dark later, and later, which is lovely. Especially when its BBQ weather! fingers crossed for that!!

There is a downside however. After the 21st, and the celebrations at Stone Henge etc.. are done for another year, the days start to get a teeny bit shorter. We are heading back to winter folks.

So I say this to you. Enjoy the next 21 days!!!! :)
