Smile Like You Mean It

Another little pearl of wisdom today. Smile like you mean it, don't just go through the motions. You will be surprised how much it lifts you up if you just take the time to smile, properly smile.

Paint it on, grit your teeth, whatever it takes. After a while, it will feel natural and you will feel happier!

Go on, give it a go. Think of your happy place :)

I am always amazed by what my body can do..........

I don't have a gym body. I don't look like a Victoria's Secrets model. However, I am in "the zone" if you will at the moment. I hope it lasts, because I am suddenly seeing my body doing things I never thought it could.

You see I already know what giving up feels like - I've trod that path a far few times. A lesser known route, at least to me, is what it feels like to succeed. I want to see what happens if I don't give up.

I have a choice each day. I can choose to eat crisps, dip them in houmous and drink wine. Then when it comes to holiday, or going to the pub or out for a meal, I get that horrible "what can I fit in" or "what will hide my bulging middle" feeling of dread. Or I can choose to get off my backside and workout, watch what I eat, cut out the crap and then feel if not perfect, then at least confident.

I remember getting close to goal a few times, then stupidly celebrating that achievement by you guessed it, eating crisps and drinking wine and bang - goal slipped further away again. Damn it!

This time, quitting is simply not acceptable. I might be aching everywhere. It might burn. I might be exhausted, tired, sore and ready to cry, but its better than quitting. I need to relish the feeling because its a step closer to where I want to be.

I have started quite a challenging program, which builds in intensity and effort. It includes some exercises I love - abs mainly, weirdly, and some I hate with a vengeance - yes burpees, I mean you! They are the devil, seriously.

Each time I incorporate a new exercise, or try a heavier weight or a higher jump, my body can actually, amazingly, accomplish it. Its quite fascinating because I never knew it could do that. Whether its skipping, jumping, running, weights, abs - you name it, my body is capable of it.

That's the most frustrating part really - if I can do all that then why have I not been doing it all along? Beats me. Don't get me wrong, its damned hard work, and it hurts like hell, and I find myself making all manner of noises - grunts, squeals, what sounds a bit like I'm growling even! But the point is - I can do this.

I have to make that choice. Every day. Do I want this body I see in the mirror forever? Or do I want it to be all it can be. Surely the best reward for how amazing my body is, is to treat it kindly, to cherish it, and to make the most of it.

So this time, I am going to make my amazing body an actual amazing body inside and out. Trainers at the ready :)

My Single of the Week - Selena Gomez - Back to You

My new Single of the Week is from the very lovely Selena Gomez with her new single 'Back to You'.

As I'm sure most people are aware, Selena Gomez is an American singer, yes, she that used to date The Bieber, but lets not hold that against her. At just 25 years old, Selena has the sort of international fame that means she literally is recognised everywhere, whether for her looks or her voice.

Selena is actually from Texas, and got one of her first breaks appearing on the Disney Channel in the show that made Miley Cyrus famous - Hannah Montana. She released her first solo music in 2012, and has also continued with her acting work.

Back to the single - its actually from a soundtrack to a program called 13 Reasons Why. Its a really catchy song, and her breathy delicate vocals suit the melody and the lyrics perfectly. Its pop but funky, dancy but more acoustic, a little bit country, a little bit street. Its just lovely, but it also makes you feel something - thats the magic of a great song.

The video to the song is interesting too - Selena sings the lyrics over images of her and a bad boy getting up to all sorts of mischief - not least stealing a car! Shocking. But its all in lovely retro colours, and Selena herself looks vintage and pretty. Its striking, and its funky.

The lines 'I wanna hold you when I'm not supposed to, when i'm lying close to someone else, you're stuck in my head and I can't get you out of it, If I could do it all again, I know I'd go back to you' are all sung, pretty much without pause, all running in a long lyrical sentence that falls and rises in such an appealing entrancing way. I had the lines running through my head for hours after hearing the song just once - its that catchy.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of The Disney "output" as often, the songs tend to be similar in style, and her previous songs, whilst I haven't hated them, I haven't really felt much for either way. This one though, somehow sounds more sensual, more mature and to my liking, suits her vocally much better. I do have the utmost respect for Selena on a personal level, as she has faced her battles for someone so young. With this song, she has a new fan musically too.

If you've not heard this one yet, go check it out and let me know what you think. I love it, I hope you will too. If you have a craving for more music stuff, you can find all my previous choices and more over at My Music page - just click here. :)

Reasons to Diet #35 - My Weddding!

My reason to stick to my diet number 35 is because of my wedding. Scheduled, but not yet booked for 2019-20, I need to get to goal weight before I can even begin to think about my dress.

I have no idea what style I want as I have no idea if what is in my head will look right on my body, until said body is at the right weight. I don't know if my goal weight is going to be the right weight until I get there, and as I never quite manage it, its making it difficult to crack on with my wedding plans.

Now that is a big incentive and should be all the motivation I need this time!

Reasons to Diet #33 - I want to stop thinking about my weight

My reason to diet #33 is simple - I want to stop thinking about my weight. At times, its all I can think about and it drives me mad! I want to just think about everything else and not have everything come back to thinking about what I weigh.

Its like this - I start to think about holidays and then - bang - my brain locks onto the issue over what I weigh now, what I want to weigh, how long I have from now until then to lose however much weight it is I need to lose. It would be so good to be at the end weight, and not have to go into planning mode over how many pounds I have to lose each week to reach the end weight.

I go shopping and I see something I like and then - boosh - I start thinking I need to lose x amount before I buy this or that. Or I go for a meal and I want a starter and then I have to stop, think about my weight and opt for low fat this, healthy that and I feel like its a grey cloud over me all the time.

So this is why I want to diet - to get to the point where my weight does not rule my conscious mind!

Reasons to Diet #32 - Be a Good Role Model

    Number 32:

My reason to diet #32 is that I want to be a good role model. My step daughter loves her food, but I want to be able to encourage her to be healthy and to exercise.

I feel a bit of a hypocrite if I am overweight and not in shape. Its tough being a step mum as you don't get the bond you get as a biological mum. I didn't give birth to her - she has her birth mum connection and that's great.

I have a different role to play, and being overweight is not a part of the role I want to play. So that is reason number 32 - for my girl.
