Me and G - Memory lane

When we headed to Menorca a few years ago, me and G had our moments!! That said, a (then) 9 year old and her dad's girlfriend were always going to be something of a complex relationship!!

I love G. She (hopefully) loves me. But unlike just being the "parent" this relationship takes work!

Fast forward a few years though, and we are close and solid friends. On holidays you get to really bond and spend quality time together and that is priceless.

Book of the month - Stephen King - Gerald's Game

My book of the month for March is a Stephen King classic - Gerald's game.

Quite an old book this one, published back in 1992. I read it near the time it came out, but decided to revisit it as my memory was that it was good. Crikey is it - not one for the squeamish though. Its one of those that makes your stomach churn at points, and whilst its not action packed as such, the sheer horror of it is mind blowing.

So, it begins with Gerald and wife Jessie heading off to their summer house by the lake. Its well past summer though, and the house and its surroundings are deserted. Not a soul around. Wanting to spice up their sex life, Gerald has bought along a pair of police issue handcuffs and gets to work placing Jessie into them, hooking her up to the bed.

Jessie however, has a sudden change of heart, but at the wrong moment she lashes out and finds herself alone, cuffed to the bed, with Gerald on the floor - dead. As she battles her sanity, and begins to deal with the cramps and pains and thirst, she suddenly realises no one is going to rescue her from her predicament, and that if she is going to live, she has to escape.

Cue a terrifying tale of sheer horror and the ultimate battle for survival. Certainly makes you think!! A book that hasn't aged, Gerald's Game is well worth a read, as relevant today as it was back then.

Highly recommended this one - and the twist that comes in at the end, just when you had put it down to Jessie's overcharged imagination will really unsettle you. Scores a 9 out of 10 this one. Brilliant.

There is also a film of this book, which has been very well done and stays closely loyal to the narrative - also highly recommended and well worth a watch.

Enjoy

Things to do in March

March brings with it Spring. The nights get lighter, the temp gets milder, the birds start to sing and the green shoots start to push through.

March is the perfect month to do some this:

- Spring Cleaning - give your house a top to bottom

- Change your Clocks - Spring Forward an hour

- Get some fresh air - get outdoors and make the most of the nights getting lighter

- Display some spring flowers - daffodils, tulips, narcissus - brighten up your outside

- Open your windows - let some air in

- Turn the heating down - its time to get that thermostat down a notch

- Work up a sweat - it will soon be summer, get your beach body started now

- Get your car valeted - remove the evidence of rainy muddy days and McD wrappers!

- Ditch those woolly jumpers - its not that cold now!

All in all, March is the month to get your house in order, brighten up your world and dust away the winter. Its Spring - make the most of it! :)

My Favourite Words

My favourite words:

The first of my favourite words is this: Haberdashery.

I think this one seems to elicit some memory from childhood, some notion of fabric rolls, sewing patterns, cottons and crafts and good scissors. It makes me think of my nana and my mum. Mum still with me, but nana is long passed, and the word feels like she is with me.

The next of my favourite words is this: Bibliography.

The actual meaning of this is quite bland, but I just love the word. Its basically what you have to put in a book to show where you got your research etc..

My next favourite word is this: Swashbuckling.

Not a word you hear much in modern conversation I grant you, but nevertheless I love this word!! It makes me think of adventures and romance.

My next one is actually a brand but the word is : Swarovski.

Now I know that the sparkles from Austria are very beautiful, and I love them also, but its the word I love too. It some how feels beautiful in your mouth. I love to say it, to pronounce it and somehow it even looks pretty and appealing to me.

For my next word that I love its a foody one: Tagliatelle.

Yes, its pasta. Those long thin ribbons of pasta to be precise. But I love the word, because it sounds what it is - Italian. Unlike other names for pasta, this one  somehow appeals to me.

We Are Off to the Seaside Again

Last year, we headed to North Wales on a very cold day in February. It was our lovely Coco's first experience of the seaside, so this year, on a, hopefully, slightly milder weekend in March we are off once again to North Wales.

We are staying this time for two nights, and its going to be fab. Coco loves to paddle, so we are going to have so much fun with her!

Here are a few shots of us braving the elements last time we were there:

Coco wasn't sure at first but then she got brave and in she went. Then, not wanting to be outdone, me and G took off our shoes and had a very cold paddle in the freezing water ourselves!

Hopefully it might be a little warmer this time around. If not, its still beautiful and so much fun. So excited!
