What's Happening this Week

  • Sunsets and sunrises. The weather has turned cold and blustery, but the advantage is beautiful flaming red sunsets lighting the sky on fire, and misty, spooky, ethereal sunrises. Beautiful clear cold October days.

  • Women are allowed to join the SAS. No more needed to be said other than about time!

  • Wireless festival told "do not swear".

  • Voice based smoke alarms more effective at sounding the alarm to children.

  • Get spooked - its all things Halloween!

My perfect Halloween Dinner Party

First up, who would I invite? Well, I would invite Stephen King, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Pattinson, John Bishop, Quentin Tarantino and Dave Grohl.

So we have a story teller, some glamour, a vampire, a comedian, a director and a rock star. Should be interesting! They would all have to be in fancy dress of course - Stephen could come as Mr Barlow, Marilyn as a corpse bride, Robert - vampire, obvs, John as a zombie priest (see what I did there), Quentin as a pumpkin and Dave Grohl as the devil.

        Last year's Pumpkins :)

We always make an effort with our pumpkins, and this year we did three of them!

This was by fair the trickiest. I haven't done swirly eyes before - I drew the right eye with no problem, but trying to do the same design for the left eye was really hard. Not to mention trying to carve a curvy swirl.

With this little guy we just went for big eyes and a huge mouth.

This one is my favourite - really proud of this one with his big scary fangs.

In honour of Halloween, my most blood curdling words

Soon All Hallows' Eve shall be upon us - known to us these days as Halloween. In honour of the spookfest, I thought I would compile the scariest and spookiest terms in the English language.

If you were a Pumpkin what face would you have?

So it is Halloween. A kind of annual tradition in my family is to carve a different pumpkin face each year, which got me to thinking - if I was a pumpkin what would my face look like?

So what would your pumpkin face be?

        Halloween and Ghostbusters

It would not be Halloween without Ghostbusters. Today, I heard the song on the radio, twice. It put me in a great mood and I turned it up way loud.

Tonight, first up and on now - Ghostbusters -the original one. I love it!! Then, after this, Ghostbusters 2!!

I love Halloween, and any excuse to watch both these films is fine by me. :)

Halloween - am I too old?

So tomorrow is Halloween. We are having a family party - spooky decorations and spooktacular food. My mum is an amazing cook so I have no doubt we are in for a treat!

I'm not a huge fan of trick or treat - it can be a little scary at times when masked faces appear at your door, but always keep a box of treats to hand, and that way you can be sure, well, almost sure, to avoid any tricks.

But I find myself wondering - at what age is it too old to be the vamp temptress? Should I hang up my devil horns or is this the one occasion where age truly is of no concern?

        Eating in Secret - ssshhhhh

I have been thin, not so thin, overweight and even obese. I yo-yo from size 12 to size 16. I am sometimes very disciplined and toned up and healthy and fit. I am sometimes less disciplined, out of control even, and at those specific times, I eat in secret. Its not good.

It usually happens when I have been dieting for a while, and it just feels necessary to have a blow out. Those occasions I can manage - damage limitation - its only once in a while. Then there are weeks like this week when its constant binge but in total secrecy.

It can be anything or everything. Biscuits, crisps, bread, cheese, cake - doesn't matter as nothing really satisfies. Its a case of quantity not quality. I kid myself that if I have just got that, if I just eat this, if I treat myself this way or that way, that somehow, that craving inside will go away. But I eat, and I eat and I feel disgusting and I feel full and uncomfortable and I feel sick but I still continue on.

Well, until someone comes home that is. I hide the wrappers, the receipts, the evidence, which of course is just plain stupid as the evidence is in the mirror when I look at my reflection. The evidence is there when I can no longer fasten my jeans, or even if I can, I cannot sit down in them!!

I find myself wondering what I am doing, but am powerless to stop. Then, when it finally dissipates I am left feeling bereft. Wondering why I just did that, and how I am going to cover it up and fix the damage caused.

I want to be slim, more than anything, but find myself munching my way through a family pack of crisps. What am I doing and why am I doing it??

        Menorcan Sunset - lovely memories

One year, we all went to Menorca for our holidays. On the last evening, we followed the pathway down to the beach and discovered how warm the sea was, and how many people were still swimming at nearly ten o'clock at night!

The bay was so beautiful at twilight. The sunset had been glorious, but it took on a magical quality as the light dimmed. Just having a little reminisce over previous holidays. At some point, I need to scan my older pictures, as I have been so many places over the years. Travelling is wonderful. You never know when such a beautiful scene will present itself. Life is great. Looking back over holiday pics is a lovely thing to do. Go dig out your hol pics and smile :)

Eat Me, Drink Me - My Magic List :)

Alice in Wonderland had the wonderful Eat Me and Drink Me to make her shrink and to make her grow. It got me thinking - if I had the power to eat or drink something to make me smaller or bigger, then what might be on the list? I'm thinking more along the diet and practical lines, although it would be great if eating chocolate made me shrink!!

Sadly, that is not so. However, I can still have my very own Eat Me, Drink Me magic list - so here we go then. Eat Me makes me big, Drink Me makes me small. Drink Me reverses the effects of Eat Me - so in effect, Eat Me is fattening, Drink me is slimming. One to counteract the other.

Learning to Cook 2018 - Recap

I am rubbish in the kitchen. There, I've put it out there. I confess. I cannot cook much at all. Its not that I can't cook - when I put my mind to it, I'm actually quite good. I just never bother to learn anything new, and I can't even do basic stuff!!

I can do curries or chilli, spag bol, or pasta bakes. I cannot do anything that might be considered standard fayre. Such as Sunday Dinner.

I wouldn't have a clue how to do Yorkshire Pudding, or roast potatoes. So I am going to learn. Here is my list of what I want to learn:

        • Roast Potatoes - done!
        • Mash potatoes - smashed!
        • Yorkshire Pudding
        • Lasagne
        • Shepherd's Pie
        • Chicken Kiev
        • Chicken chop suey
        • Ravioli
        • Potato skins
        • Homemade soup - got it sorted !
        • Garlic mushrooms
        • Homemade burger
        • Cheesecake
        • Fish and chips
        • Sponge pudding
        • Meat and Potato Pie
        • Hunters Chicken
        • Cajun Chicken
        • Mushroom Risotto
        • Chocolate Fudge Cake
        • Chicken fried rice
        • Chicken Chow Mein
        • Beef enchiladas
        • Satay Chicken
        • Carrot and parsnip mash
        • Homemade bread
        • Pizza
        • Beef in black bean sauce
        • Sweet and sour chicken
        • Cheese and onion quiche
        • Chocolate brownies
        • Lemon chicken
        • Cupcakes
        • Crispy seaweed
        • Treacle pudding

        • Cucumber maki
        • Pumpkin katsu
        • Scones

        Amazing pool

Strange to be inland - it felt like an oasis

Nothing better than a dip when its hot

        So relaxing

        Most of the time!

My Travels in Marrakech - Up on the Roof

It was beautiful up on the rooftop

It was still warm and bright

The light changed as the sun lowered on the horizon

        It turned the mountains pink

        And the rooftops red

It was breathtaking as the sunset and the city lit up

        Simply stunning
